A long while ago I reviewed AppZapper, its an application designed to go through your computer and help you delete applications. Normally when you delete an app it will leave behind files such a preference files etc. Although these apps are no longer used they are left on your system. As a result it can slowly increase your disk space. Its usually a good idea to get rid of them. AppZapper does cost you money, today’s app AppCleaner is a free app which does the same job.

Cleaning Those Apps

This application is very simple. You drag any application you want to get rid onto the drop box. This will activate the program and it will search your hard drive for various files such as preferences. It will then report back with all of the relevant files it has found. You can then accept the files it has found and delete them. It only takes a couple of seconds for the whole process to run and complete.

This application also sports a couple of other features to help you delete apps efficently. For example the buttons at the top of the window allows you to view all of the applications, widgets and plugins. Here you can go down the check list and mass select files to delete. This is a lot quicker than dragging apps onto the window. I use this feature to help clean my computer.

Another cool feature is the daemon that runs in the background. This checks when you delete an application and it will automatically run the app. This means when you delete an app it will automatically find all of the relevant files. Nifty. The problem with this is, however, you do have an app running in the background using memory. It doesn’t take much space however.

Overall this application is good. It does its job well, and for a free app you can’t get any better. In comparison with AppZapper it doesn’t find all of the files and folders it could, but for a slightly better job than the simple delete button its great. Try it out. I suggest you compare this app to AppZapper to see which one you like.
