Espionage – Password Protect Mac Folders

If security is very important for your porn work collection you will need a way to password encrypt your folders. By default on a Mac there is no simple way to do this. You could hide and use various other methods but it is not very simple. What you could do with is a password protection program like Espionage. It is really useful and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Password Protecting Your Files

Espionage doesn’t actually lock your files as such. It actually create various disk images and then uses various pieces of code trickery to make it look like a folder. It works quite well. Actually using the program is very simple. You open the application, insert your folders into the drop box, and then provide a password to encrypt the folder.

There is various layers of security with this application. For example you need an admin password to open and use the application. This simply stops people snooping the folders in the Espionage window. Then with each folder you add can have a different password so you can maximize security. You can quickly and easily secure all of your work.

There are lots of extra features with this application. For example you can chose between 128 and 256 bit encryption. One note, the more encryption and the larger the folder the more time it will take to encrypt. As well as this the program also integrates with Finder, providing a right click menu option. Another cool feature is Growl support. At various times it will display information regarding your encrypted files.

Conclusion

This app is a good way of encrypting your files without having to do all of the manual work. There are a couple of problems with this application. It is a little slow to run, since everything is encrypted. As well as this it does tend to be a bit buggy with the open and unencrypted folders. I have found that this little feature could be improved. It doesn’t flow as well as the rest of the application. One final note is that if you remove the application there doesn’t seem to be a simple way of unencrypting your files, as well as this the app does need a second application to run in the background to keep track of everything.

It is good, it is also cheap so it is a decent price. Anything more and this type of application wouldn’t be worth it. There are manual methods out there, but they are not as simple as using this application.

I personally use LameSecure, it’s simple and free!
It lock’s any folders and when you try to access the respective folder it prompts you to enter a password.

Theres actually a very easy way to do this. . .

you just right click a folder . .
    GET INFO
Unlock the privileges settings by clicking the lock in the bottom corner
goto Privileges and set the user to WRITE ONLY ( DROP BOX )

you can drop stuff in. . but if you try to open the folder youll get a NO ACCESS type warning

right click and repeat, but set it to read and write to actually be able to see inside the folder again.

Don’t interrupt it. The larger the folder, the longer it takes.
Interrupting it caused me to lose folder contents. Twice.

Yea, you can do the -get info- thing as mentioned earlier, although that gets tedious after a while. The other option is to do exactly what this program does, without paying for it. All you have to do is open disk utility and create new image. Macs automatically support encryption via this method, you dont need to pay $15 for this.
