GrandPerspective – View File Sizes 1
Utility
Although disk space doesn’t tend to be a big problem nowadays, on certain disk you may wonder why you end up with limited space. What you need is a tool to zoom out and take a snapshot and show you exactly which files are being space hogs. This tool is GrandPerspective. It is designed to give you a visual representation of the sizes of different files.
Being A Disk Satellite
Using this tool is very simple. The first step is to set up which folder you want to scan. You can scan any folder including your root. By scanning your root drive you can get an overall picture of what is happening on your disk. This is probably the most used option.
Once as the scan of your folder of hard drive is complete you will get an image similar to the one shown below. This image shows you a couple of things. Firstly the bigger the block the bigger the file. As well as this it also groups files based on folders. So you can see which folders are the major hogs in the system.
There are lots of customization options. Such as colour of the squares as well as different ways of representing the folders and files. For example you can change the settings show the blocks are grouped by, depth, extension.
Conclusion
This is a very good application. It does its job perfectly. There isn’t much fussing around with lots of fiddly options and designs. The only problem I find with this application is that it is a bit slow to scan your drive. Although my hard drive is large I am sure there is some way to speed the process up.

An awesome app! I cleared 15 giga bytes from my hard drive. There was so much stuff I wasn’t using.
And the best part is, it’s free!
Thank you for reviewing this.
