ShoveBox – Remember Those Little Things 0
Utility
Sorry for the complete lack of posts. If you have been following my twitter feed, you may notice that I have a lot of work on at the moment. Anyway, this program was recommended to me after I completely forgot a great idea I had for a post. In a nutshell it a menu bar program which is designed for you to shove bits of information for reminders later. It is very useful and can store a lot of little bits. Saves you having to keep hundreds of stickies laying around. This program is called ShoveBox.
Those Little Reminders
As mentioned ShoveBox is a menu bar application, it is designed to be simple. It doesn’t have a application interface as many applications. It is just a couple of menu bar options. This doesn’t mean it is simple. It has a lot of useful features which makes using this program a lot of fun, as well as a very useful resource for storing data.
Using this app is very simple, you get your file, piece of text, iSight image, URL etc. You then drag it onto the ShoveBox icon. It will then be copied into the database, at the same time if you have Growl installed a small message will be displayed saying the data has been saved. You can then proceed to add all of the little ideas you have.
The items are then stored in a list, you can organise this list using the organisation section of the program (this is an app window). You can add folders, flags, labels and export the items. This is very useful since the menu bar section of the program only shows recent items. This can be used to store and organise more long term ideas.

This app is very useful. For a scatter mind like myself it is a good way of keeping track of information and ideas that pop into my head at random times.
Conclusion
There are a couple of problems with this program (like any program). Since it doesn’t have a dock icon you can’t Command + Tab into any of the windows. This is one of the pet peeve of mine. I like the Command + Tab functionality. The next small problem is that it takes a little bit of getting used to for shoving data into the app, but once as you start using this program you get used to it pretty quickly.
